QUESTIONABLE ACCIDENT IN RUSHVILLE
As we were surfing many newspaper articles to learn as much as we could about Nancy, her abduction, and murder… we came across something. Maybe it's just a coincidence? Or is it? On June 21st, Rushville’s Republican newspaper reported such incidents, known as “Police Blotter” in the daily newspaper. This is public information and very common for small towns to publish accidents, incidents, and arrests.

*Disclosure: We are not accusing anyone, just showing what was reported that was already public knowledge in this blog.
On June 17th, a male driver William D."P." Guffey from Grammer and a male driver John C. Abrams from Rushville were involved in a three-vehicle accident south of Rushville, near Riverside Park, on State Rd 3. Maybe this is unrelated? Concerning is the fact the time stamp is not listed in the newspaper's article for that day? (Yet, Nancy's bones were found 3 months later in Grammer, Indiana). The driver of the third car fled the scene and an unknown female (?) was checking to see if the others involved were injured. No time stamp for all of this happening? What's the possibility of this being missed since it is the same day Nancy disappeared? Did the Rushville Police Department or ISP follow up or notice this odd incident and at the very least question the timeliness of it happening on the day Nancy disappeared? As a detective, this should have be questioned. Did the make and model of the cars involved match any description of witness accounts to Nancy Lyons’ disappearance? A running vehicle at the time of 8:07 pm until reported to Rush County 911 Police Department at 11:06 pm by John and Terri Shelby? 3 hours!!! No one saw anything (other than Rollin and Debora Mitchell) or reported a single thing for 3 solid hours of an abandoned running vehicle? How much gas was in this car to run for 3 hours straight? How much gas was left in this car once found? Was the tire flat or not flat? Was the trunk open or not opened? Since this accident occurred not only on the same day Nancy disappeared but also within the location of her disappearance. I would certainly hope that this was something looked into for daily accidents and/or arrests in Rush County or Grammer. (Grammer now known as Columbus, Indiana).
Another question I would like to ask is why a William D. "P." Guffey from Grammer, Indiana who lived at the address of a church back in 2000 to 2003 per traffic violation records is the same William P. Guffey that was interviewed by Detective Ron Kittle with the Barthlomew County Sheriff's Department? On 10/4/2002, just 2 days after Nancy's body was found in a field only 1.6 miles from William P. Guffeys residence? Coincide this with the facts that William D. "P." Guffey from Grammer per POLICE BLOTTER having an accident the same day Nancy disappeared on 6/17/2002? Grammer Presbyterian Church is located at 5343 S CR 1000 E, Grammer, IN 47236. Did this church have any affiliation to Nancy? Could this be a concern that was never followed up on? Did Nancy know the Guffeys or attend church with the Guffeys? Did Nancy know of a John C. Abrams from Rushville, Indiana? William P. Guffey's address at the time is 1.6 miles from where Nancy's body was found. Is this the same William Guffey that had a car accident the day Nancy disappeared?
Disclaimer: Grammer Presbyterian Church, 5343 S CR 1000 E, Grammer, IN 47236 was SOLD in 2022 and internet search for address is now 5333 S CR 1000 E.

Detective Rob Kittle with the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department Supplemental Report. Grammer, Indiana, is near the location where Nancy Lyons' body/remains were found in a farmer's field by Ron Speers. Living nearby, a William Guffey was interviewed and made a taped statement on 10/04/2002, with his address included in the report. It's a match. Just the oddities of it all...

Let's add in the fact that the same William P. Guffey was married to Debora Kay (Hardebeck) Guffey, and both resided at the address of Grammer Presbyterian Church located at 5343 S CR 1000 E, Grammer, IN 47236. Debora Guffey was involved in an accident the a few days prior to Nancy's abduction on June 14th, 2002. Debora Hardebeck-Guffey died on Thursday, April 26th, 2018 in Shelbyville, Indiana, under a suspected suicide just months after her husband's release from prison, following a well-publicized court document online that had him incarcerated in prison.

The only news reporting done on the death of Debora Hardebeck-Guffey is thru Giant FM, Shelbyville, Indiana and her name was mention by her brother in law. No funeral can be found online.:
LOCATION: W. Franklin St. off Harrison St. Behind City Hall, Shelbyville, Indiana
The shooting was at the apartments on the West side of the NAL parking lot.

Additional findings include the fact that the town marshal for Carthage, Indiana, at the time of Nancy's disappearance and untimely murder has family within the same area where Nancy's body/remains were found. There seem to be too many coincidences in this case, which has remained unsolved for 23 years now.

Way too many coincidences that haunt this case. Nancy's parents are now both deceased. They never got the chance to see that their daughter's murderer was made to pay for taking the life of their daughter, Nancy Kay Lyons.
__________
Please note that there is another William P. Guffey (deceased 2023, age 82) marriage to Brenda Lou Hayes that lives just 6 miles north west of where Nancy Lyons body was found and his address is: 2260 N Old State Road 9, Columbus, Indiana. The William P. Guffey (age 55) I am speaking on was married to Debora Kay Hardback Guffey (deceased 4/26/2017, approx 6 months from her husbands prison release) Debora also lived in 2002 at: Grammer Presbyterian Church, 5343 S CR 1000 E, Grammer, IN 47236 which is 1.6 miles straight line south of where Nancy’s body was found.
I have found no affiliation between the two William P. Guffeys as of yet.
The team here at CCUI 13 has been working in our spare time to investigate the 2002 Cold Case Murder of Nancy Lyons of Carthage, IN. We’ve read through publicly available case notes, YouTube videos, online forums, court documents, police reports, logs, reports, and interviews.
Our goal is to get the word out about her case and tell a story about what we’ve uncovered up to this point. We hope to see someday that justice is served for Nancy.
