WITNESS ACCOUNTS:
Witnesses reported seeing Red Nissan Sentra unoccupied but idling around 8:15 pm.

Nancy Kay Lyons left Walmart in Rushville, Indiana at approximately 7:52pm as she was seen checking out at register 4 per the the Walmart receipt found in her car with the timestamp of 7:52pm.
Debora and Rollin Mitchell saw Nancy Lyons' vehicle at APPROX. 9 PM that evening but did not believe it to be Nancy's car due to not remembering if it had trim down the side of it.
John and Terri Shelby residents reported Nancy Lyons' abandoned car at 11:06 pm, Terri drove by Nancy’s car at 8:30 pm and said lights (in June it should of been daylight still) were on and flashers activated, John got off work around 10 pm and drove past Nancy’s car. He got out to inspect the car and remembered seeing the spare tire still in the half open trunk. Purse open, driver's side window down. No law enforcement officials questioned the couple about the car or what they saw that evening.
Pam Hiner (friend/neighbor), was notified after 11:30 pm of Nancy’s disappearance, Mrs. Hiner left the unsecured scene at 12:30 am.
Linda Boedicker (friend/manager of Carthage Manor), was notified after 11:30 pm, Linda granted access to Nancy Lyons apartment to Carthage Police and the Mitchells, left the unsecured scene at 12:30 am.
Nick Ernstes arrived a few minutes past 11:30 pm to 1:30am. Ernstes left the scene to speak to a friend of Lyons, Penny Jones, who directed him to her sister, Debora Mitchell’s home. Ernstes traveled with Rollin and Debora's Mitchell’s daughter Krista Mitchell to Lyons apartment to look for a cellular phone bill that may have Nancy's number on it so they could call her? Meanwhile, Debora Mitchell and her husband Rollin Mitchell went to the scene. Ernstes, Krista Mitchell, Deputy Marshal Rick Bush and ride along Jason Ash (civilian riding with Ernstes) were unable to locate a cell phone bill with Nancy's number? No one knew Nancy's cell phone number? Odd. Ernstes, Deputy Houston and Deputy Marshal Bush had to leave to respond to a personal injury car accident on 9600 blk. Rushville Road at 1:30am to 2:30am. Where did ride along Jason Ash go during all this time? Ernstes did go back to visit the apartment of Nancy Lyons (I suppose after the car accident) before returning to the scene an hour later from 2:30 am to 6:30am.
Steve Houston and Carthage Deputy Marshal Rick Bush arrived at the scene at 11:30 pm. Nick Ernstes showed up a few minutes later.
TIMELINE:
Various people who drove by Nancy
Lyons' car that Monday evening of June 17, 2002
had called in inconsistent information in the following days.
Below are excerpts from Rushville County
Sheriff's Department dispatch reports.
Unknown time, June 18:
Caller advised she left home a little after 8 p.m., June
17 to travel to a residence on Road 980W. She
arrived at her destination at 8:15 p.m. She said
she saw a vehicle sitting on the south side of the
intersection with a person sitting in the driver's
seat with their arm on the steering wheel and
head bent over as if they were looking at the
floor.
Police calculated that she crossed the
intersection about 8:10 p.m. The caller was sure
the trunk was closed.
1:36 p.m. June 18:
Caller said he and his wife were coming from
Arlington to Carthage at approximately 8:15 p.m., June 17.
They stopped to see if anyone was with the car that needed
help and no one was around the vehicle.
2:10 p.m. June 18:
Caller said she was working a couple of weeks ago when
Lyons came into the store complaining of being sick all
the time and that she thought she should just end it all.
7:34 p.m. June 18:
Caller reported he found a blouse. Authorities made contact
and determined it had nothing to do with the case.
7:53 p.m. June 18:
Caller said around 8:30 p.m., June 17, she was taking her step-son
for a drive. She saw the missing person's car along with a bright
red Ford Taurus with 70A (RUSH COUNTY PLATE #) remainder unknown license plates,
occupied by one male and one female with the female driving.
4:14 p.m. June 19:
Caller reported she drove past the vehicle of the missing person
around 9:30 p.m. June 17 and the trunk was closed.
9:28 p.m. June 19:
Caller's husband said his wife observed a truck with the vehicle
after 11 p.m. When contacted by The Republic, she said she was
on her way home from work and passed the vehicle around 11:15 p.m.
She claims she saw a woman resembling Lyons sitting in the driver's
seat and that the vehicle's interior light was on and flashers
activated. A truck she had been following pulled
over in front of it and two men got out.
"I ... always saw her every morning
walking," she said. I know that lady in the car
was the same lady. I was going to pull over but I
figured they had stopped to help her.
She said she slowed way down and in her
rear-view
mirror, she witnessed one man
walk toward the passenger side while the other
approached the driver's side. She then said the
woman got out and all three went to the trunk.
“I didn't think anything about it until the next day
when I heard she was missing," she said. "I can't
remember where I started following that truck from.
I feel so bad I did not stop and help her."
8:27 a.m. June 21:
Caller received a phone call from her nephew who said he
was on Road 900N when he discovered a white tank top
along the road and picked it up. He then realized
that it may have been related to the missing
person case and notified his aunt, who is the
wife of a reserve deputy. (Charles "Chuck" Stephens?)
5:39 p.m. June 21:
Caller advised she was with her fiancé and they were driving
in the area where Lyons' car was in the roadway
around 9 p.m. June 17. When they came upon
her vehicle, there was an older model Chevrolet
S-10 parked beside it. It drove away on Road
5OO N toward Rushville. They could not tell the
color of the truck or give a description of the
driver or plate number because it was too dark. (Not sure if it would have been too dark at 9pm in June)

The misunderstanding in all this is if Nancy's car had a flat tire she would have surely walked the distance of 3.1 miles to her home at Carthage Manor Apartments. The walk itself would of taken 1 hour and 8 minutes to walk and only 4 minutes to drive back. Nancy was known to walk so this would not of been a hard accomplishment given reports of her health with stomach issues. To think that Nancy disappeared within minutes of being home is horrifying. Then to be murdered later on...justice for Nancy will always be first and foremost.

Nancy Kay Lyons body was found in a farmers field on 10/2/2002 in Bartholomew County, Indiana. Almost 4 months later after her disappearance. A farmer by the name of Ron Speers was combining the field when what he thought was a skull appeared with hair attached. Authorities were called and an investigation started. The remains were human and the remains were Nancy Kay Lyons.
Remains found on 10/2/2002. GPS coordinates: 39°10'10.3"N 85°43'29.3"W

May you rest in peace Nancy Kay Lyons and your murderer be held to his/her crimes against you.
